A planning a Under the Local Plan adopted by Barnsley’s Labour Council in 2019, three large sites in Dodworth and Gilroyd were set aside for new housing – 2 off Smithywood Lane which are the subject of a current application for 198 homes and this one adjacent to the M1, north of Keresforth Road for 215 houses.
Along with the previously approved site for 51 homes off Green Road, this means an additional 464 new homes in Dodworth in the near future.
Because these sites are in the Local Plan, it is highly unlikely that the Council will now refuse planning permission as long as the applications meet the requirements set out in the local plan and other local planning policies. The current application for the land adjacent to the M1 intends to access the site from Keresforth Road rather than from South Road which the Council tried to facilitate by needlessly demolishing 2 four bedroomed council houses. The Keresforth Road access will put further pressure on this road and direct a lot of the traffic from the site into Dodworth
