A planning application for 50 new houses off Green Road has been submitted to Barnsley Council by Newettt Homes.

This site was granted planning permission in 2018 for 51 homes and is therefore likely to be approved again this time around – the previous permission was only valid for 3 years and as no development has started, a new planning permission is needed. Along with the other current applications submitted this year for housing in Dodworth on Smithywood Lane and Keresforth Road, this would mean an additional 463 new homes in Dodworth if they are all approved.

It is entirely understandable that Dodworth residents will have concerns about the impact of all these new houses on the village such as pressure on local healthcare services, schools, and roads, the loss of green space, increased noise, loss of amenity,  and public rights of way.

Both Peter Fielding and Chris Wray are members of the Planning Board and so will have a vote on this application and will be able to freely represent the views of residents to other Councillors at the Planning Board as well as fighting, along with Cllr Will Fielding, for improvements to the plans before they even go before the Planning Board. We will also be fighting to ensure that action is taken to provide sufficient school places, capacity at the GP surgery and improvements on Dodworths Roads to cope with these developments.
