Before the lockdown we surveyed residents to identify road safety hotspots. We had a big reaction and thank you to everyone who responded.
Speeding on Darton Lane came up many times as a road safety problem. Safety concerns outside the Primary School was another issue.
We are suggesting a 20mph zone in the vicinity of the primary school which will help keep our children safe and reduce traffic speed further up Darton Lane.
20mph limits outside schools are quite common now across the country.
It is accepted by road safety campaigners and many councils that “Twenty is Plenty” outside schools.
I am asking you to support this petition for a 20mph zone outside the school which I will submit to Barnsley Council.
We, the undersigned, are calling on Barnsley Council
to introduce a 20mph speed limit on Darton Lane on the stretch of the road that includes the entrance and exit to Darton Primary School.
The benefits of this would be as follows
Improved road safety across the whole stretch of this road which is getting busier, especially at peak times.
To improve safety for children and parents attending Darton Primary School
To improve safety for motorists at the junction of Darton Lane and Sackup Lane.
To improve safety for pedestrians walking on this road with its narrow pavements
Provide a consistent message regarding road safety and the need to reduce speed around our schools.
Petition to Barnsley Council to introduce a 20mph speed limit on Darton Lane on the stretch of the road that includes the entrance and exit to Darton Primary School.
